Reiki: Spiritually Guided Life Force
Energy
Contrary to my first impression, Reiki has nothing
to do with gardening implements. Never has, never
will.
Reiki is a generic word used to describe any type
of healing that uses hands-on touch to strengthen
the life force energy on the physical, intellectual,
emotional and spiritual planes. It is the combination
of two words. Rei refers to spiritual wisdom,
the All Knowing. Ki is the same as Chi
in Chinese, and refers to the life force. It is
the nonphysical energy that defines all living things.
In a nutshell, Reiki is Universal Life Energy.
When one is performing Reiki, the spiritually guided
energy is passed through the body and out the palm
chakras into the person that is being treated. Your
own personal life force energy is never depleted.
Life force energy? Yes, life force energy.
Like Einstein stated all those years ago, Energy=mass
times speed of light squared. I have no idea how
he came up with it. But what I do know is that everything
in the universe is made up of energy, including
our physical being, thoughts and emotions. Besides
obtaining energy through the usual methods such
as eating, drinking and breathing, every cell in
our being is nourished and surrounded by energy
fields as well.
Now the toughie question: How does this translate
to healing? Good question, and one that rocks the
world of Erik Behler in the Donovan series. Individuals
who practice any form of alternative medicine, be
it meditation, yoga or biofeedback, believe that
disease is a manifestation of imbalances within
the soul, spirit, mind, or in the case of Reiki,
the energy field. Don't forget, thoughts and emotions
are all made up of energy and play a huge role in
the well being of our physical self. When the life
force of an individual is high and flowing freely,
that person will be less likely to become ill. Conversely,
if an individual's life force energy is low or blocked,
he will be more vulnerable to illness. Reiki serves
its purpose by balancing the life force energy back
into the individual.
Still as clear as mud? I'll use an example. I like
to think of Reiki as heating a big house. Many people
shut the doors to various rooms to keep the warmth
inside that room. The rest of the rooms are shut
off from the heat and remain cold. This is the basic
principle behind Reiki. It opens those closed doors
to allow the warm air to flow into each room of
the body, mind and spirit.
Reiki is being slowly introduced into hospitals
around the nation as a means of alleviating stress,
pre-surgical jitters, pain relief, and stimulating
the healing process. I talked with nurses who have
used Reiki countless times in the midst of performing
their duties at the hospital. The scenarios used
in the Donovan series are a demonstration of my
creative mind. But in no way can anyone refute the
possibilities.
This all may sound as weird as inverting your navel.
But it does work, whether you realize its effects
or not. I am living proof of it. That isn't to say
Reiki is a cure-all and I make this point very clearly
in my book. Reiki merely provides the healing energy
into the body. What you do with it is your path.
To quote Plato, 'To heal the body, one must heal
the mind.' To heal the mind is a very personal journey,
and a wonderful invitation.
